HDFC CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan will not seek reappointment: HDFC Bank Managing Director and CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan has decided not to seek reappointment. He will retire from his post on October 26, 2026. The bank said its board has decided to fast-track the process for selection and appointment of his successor within the stipulated time.
Jagdeeshan informed the bank’s board of his decision on Saturday. This was followed by an unscheduled meeting of the board. Despite board’s persuasion Jagdeesan sticked to his decision for not seeking reappointment. The Board deeply appreciated his commitment, leadership, contribution to the growth and stability of the Bank and his role in successful completion of one of the largest mergers in corporate India,’ the bank said, wishing Jagdishan well for his future.
His exit will mark the end of a 30-year-long banking career at HDFC Bank, where Jagdishan rose from a manager in the finance department in 1996 to the corner office. He took over as managing director and CEO on October 27, 2020, succeeding the bank’s long-serving chief Aditya Puri. During his long tenure in HDFC, he oversaw the merger of HDFC limited with HDFC bank. Before joining HDFC, he worked with Deutsche Bank AG.
