Scorching Heat Continues: Red Alert in 4 Districts for Next 4 Days
Heatwave to Persist for 4 More Days; Red Alert Issued in 4 Districts: The heatwave continues to trouble people across the state, with the Meteorological Department warning that the intense conditions are likely to remain for four more days, till May 29. A red warning has been issued for four districts, while four districts are under orange alert, and 17 districts are under yellow alert.
Temperatures remained extremely high on Monday afternoon. Sambalpur recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44 degrees Celsius, while Hirakud touched 42 degrees Celsius. At 2:30 pm, Bhubaneswar recorded 37 degrees Celsius, Balasore 38 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda 34.2 degrees Celsius, and Gopalpur 33.4 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has also predicted the possibility of Nor’westers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, which may provide some temporary relief from the scorching heat.
Meanwhile, strong Nor’westers winds caused damage in Bargarh, where a gate of the famous Dhanu Yatra was reportedly damaged.
For the severe heatwave, officials have changed the schedule for SIR field visits. Fieldwork will now be stopped between 12 noon and 3 pm. Teams have been advised to carry out visits only from 6 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm. Letters regarding the revised timings have been sent to all district collectors, BMC commissioners, and DEOs.
