SC Urges Silence on Twisha Sharma Case During CBI Investigation
Twisha Sharma Case: Supreme Court Orders CBI Probe: The Supreme Court on Monday asked all parties in the Twisha Sharma suicide case in Bhopal to avoid making unnecessary public statements. The Court also urged the media not to sensationalise the case or air statements from the victim’s family or the accused that could affect the investigation.
A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi, said the Court was concerned that some people were creating an impression that the judiciary was influencing the probe. The Court expressed hope that the CBI would conduct a fair investigation and bring the matter to a proper conclusion.
Twisha Sharma, 33, died on May 12. While the initial post-mortem report said the death was due to hanging, her family demanded a second post-mortem, alleging that her husband’s family was trying to influence the investigation. Her mother-in-law is a retired District Judge, and her husband is a lawyer.
The Madhya Pradesh government later recommended a CBI probe, while the High Court ordered a second post-mortem by AIIMS Delhi doctors. Twisha’s cremation took place on May 24.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court about the developments in the case. The Supreme Court praised the state government for recommending a CBI investigation and said all parties should cooperate with the probe instead of speaking publicly.
The Court also asked the media not to seek comments from witnesses or the accused, saying such statements could influence the investigation. Senior lawyers appearing for both sides tried to present arguments, but the Court said it would not comment on the facts of the case at this stage.
