Himanta Biswa Sarma Set to Begin Second Consecutive Term as Assam CM
Himanta Biswa Sarma to Take Oath as Assam Chief Minister Today: Himanta Biswa Sarma will begin his second consecutive term as the Chief Minister of Assam on Tuesday, becoming the first non-Congress leader in the state to achieve this milestone. Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya appointed Sarma as Chief Minister after he was elected leader of the NDA legislature party. The oath-taking ceremony will be held in Guwahati at 11:40 a.m.
Several top leaders, including Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman, are expected to attend the grand ceremony. BJP leaders said more than one lakh people may attend the event, and heavy security arrangements have been made across the city.
The NDA alliance secured a record 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, with the BJP winning 82 seats. Allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front won 10 seats each. Sarma said the names of ministers will be finalized after discussions with BJP national president Nitin Naveen. After taking oath, the new government will hold its first cabinet meeting and begin work on implementing its election promises.
