Bengal Government to Start ₹3,000 ‘Annapurna Bhandaar’ Aid for Women from June 1
New Bengal Government Launches ‘Annapurna Bhandaar’ Scheme for Women: The West Bengal government has announced the launch of the “Annapurna Bhandaar” scheme for women. Under this scheme, eligible women will receive ₹3,000 directly in their bank accounts every month starting from June 1. The decision was taken during the first cabinet meeting of the new government held at Nabanna on Monday. The government also announced free travel for women on government buses from the same date.
During the assembly election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had promised financial support for women and free bus travel if the BJP formed the government in the state. The government said the new scheme is aimed at improving women’s financial independence and helping families manage daily expenses.
Earlier, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had introduced the “Lakshmir Bhandar” scheme after the 2021 elections. Under that scheme, women received monthly financial support between ₹1,500 and ₹1,700 depending on category. The BJP later promised higher financial assistance of ₹3,000 in its election manifesto. The new government says it is now starting work to fulfil those promises from June 1.
