Jharkhand Recruitment Exam Case: ED Registers ECIR, Probe Begins
Jharkhand Exam Row: ED Steps In as Students Demand CBI Probe: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started investigating alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment exams, including the 14th JPSC preliminary exam. The ED has registered an ECIR based on an FIR already being investigated by the CID.
The student protest has entered its 17th day, with six protesters on hunger strike. Students are demanding a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities. The sixth round of talks between the students and the state government on Sunday also ended without a solution.
The government said it has accepted around 98% of the students’ demands but cannot agree to a CBI inquiry. However, the students have refused to end their protest without a CBI probe and are planning to march towards the Jharkhand Assembly today.
Meanwhile, three JPSC members-Anima Hansda, Ajita Bhattacharya and Jamal Ahmed—resigned amid the controversy. The CID has summoned them for questioning over allegations including paper leaks. Earlier, JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte had also resigned.
So far, 19 people have been arrested in connection with the alleged irregularities in the JPSC examinations.
