Japan Poll Win: PM Modi Praises Takaichi, Stresses Indo-Pacific Cooperation
Takaichi secured a decisive mandate in the snap lower house elections, with her Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and coalition partners expected to command a two-thirds majority. The result firmly consolidates her authority just months after she assumed office.
At 64, Takaichi made history by becoming Japan’s first female prime minister after winning the LDP leadership in October. Known for her firm positions on national defence, economic security, and China, she has emerged as a strong advocate for closer cooperation with the United States, India, and other Indo-Pacific partners.
Her victory is being seen as a major turnaround for the ruling party after years of political instability marked by inflation pressures, funding controversies, and public dissatisfaction. Observers believe the strong mandate will give her government greater momentum to push through key reforms and strengthen Japan’s role in the Indo-Pacific region.
