E20 Petrol Rollout Begins Across India; Govt Assures No Harm to Vehicles
India Launches E20 Petrol Nationwide from April 1: The Government of India has officially rolled out ethanol-blended petrol (E20) from April 1, marking a significant step toward cleaner and more sustainable fuel usage.
E20 petrol is a blend consisting of 80% petrol and 20% ethanol, which is primarily produced from crops like corn and sugarcane. While the nationwide rollout begins now, ethanol blending has already been in use in phases since 2020.
The government has clarified that vehicles compliant with emission standards ranging from BS-2 to BS-6 will not face any issues using E20 fuel. Authorities have also dismissed rumors suggesting that ethanol-blended petrol could damage vehicle engines.
