Jewellery worth lakhs missing from bank locker, FIR filed against branch manager: In a shocking incident, gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs has reportedly been found missing from the locker of the State Bank of India Branch in Kanpur. The police have registered an FIR against the concerned employees in the case.
The case is related to Rashmi Arora, a resident of Kaushalpuri. She opened her account at the Swaroop Nagar branch of State Bank of Travancore in 2003(Which later merged with SBI). The woman was given locker number-23 by the bank. After the death of her husband, the woman shifted to Lucknow with her daughter. During this long interval, the locker’s annual rent was regularly deducted from her savings account. She was assured that her lifetime savings were safe. When Rashmi visited the bank on July 27, 2026, and opened the locker in the presence of bank employees, she was shocked to find that the ancient and valuable jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh was missing. On the other hand, Rashmi claims that she had not accessed the locker since 2011.
The woman filed a complaint with the police accusing the bank management and employees. On the instructions of Kanpur Police Commissioner, Swaroop Nagar Police has registered an FIR against the branch manager and related employees. The police are investigating the records related to the locker, the bank documents and employees.
