State Launches Kanya Vivah Yojana Today from Sacred Taratarini Peeth
Kanya Vivah Yojana Begins Today; CM to Launch Scheme from Taratarini Peeth: The Chief Minister’s Kanya Vivah Yojana will be launched today, marking a major welfare initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged families. The scheme will be formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister from Ganjam, a region that holds special significance as it is home to the revered Maa Tara Tarini shrine.
Under the scheme, the age of the groom must be between 18 and 35 years, while the bride should be between 21 and 35 years to be eligible for benefits. Each beneficiary couple will receive financial assistance of ₹60,000, and the entire cost of the wedding will be borne by the state government, easing the financial burden on families.
The launch event will witness a mass marriage ceremony involving around 200 couples, making it a memorable and socially impactful occasion. The initiative is aimed at promoting dignity, financial security, and social inclusion, while ensuring that daughters from economically weaker sections can begin married life with support and respect.
The scheme is meant for poor and financially disadvantaged families. Divorced women and widows are also eligible to receive benefits under this initiative, ensuring wider social support for women in need.
Eligibility Criteria
To avail of the scheme, applicants must meet the eligibility conditions laid down by the government. The bride must be a permanent resident of Odisha and her age should be between 18 and 35 years at the time of marriage. The family should belong to the economically weaker section, be listed as BPL, or be registered on the Samsagrik portal. Registration of the applicant under the scheme is mandatory to receive benefits.
What benefits are provided?
Under this welfare scheme, the government provides financial assistance of up to ₹51,000. Out of this amount, ₹35,000 is directly transferred to the bride’s bank account. In addition, ₹10,000 is given as a wedding gift, while up to ₹6,000 is provided for purchasing wedding-related items, helping families manage marriage expenses with dignity.
How to apply
Eligible beneficiaries can apply for the scheme by visiting their Gram Panchayat Office, Panchayat Samiti Office, or Municipal (Nagar Nigam) Office. Applications can also be submitted online through the designated government portal, as per local administration guidelines.
