In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi said he had spoken with US President Donald Trump and thanked him for the move, describing it as an important step in strengthening India-US economic ties.
The Prime Minister said that when two large democracies and leading global economies work together, the benefits reach ordinary citizens and create fresh opportunities for bilateral cooperation. He praised President Trump’s leadership and noted that it plays an important role in promoting global peace, stability and prosperity. PM Modi also reiterated India’s support for Trump’s peace initiatives on the global stage.
Expressing optimism about the future, PM Modi said he looked forward to working closely with President Trump to take the India-US partnership to new heights. Earlier, President Trump announced on Truth Social that the United States would reduce reciprocal tariffs from 25 per cent to 18 per cent, effective immediately, citing friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi. He also stated that India would move toward reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers against the US and committed to purchasing over $500 billion worth of American energy, technology, agriculture and other products.
