Nine Killed in Massive Fire at Kolkata Hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street
Kolkata Hotel Fire Claims 9 Lives, Including a Child; 6 Injured: A massive fire broke out at a hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata after 2 AM, killing nine people, including a child. The victims included six men and two women.
Six others were injured and taken to hospital, while around 60 people were safely evacuated from the building. The fire was brought under control after nearly two hours.
Most of the hotel guests were reportedly from border areas of Bangladesh and had come to Kolkata for medical treatment.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown. An air-conditioner explosion is suspected, but officials have not confirmed it. Allegations have also been raised about inadequate fire-safety arrangements at the hotel.
