Do’s and Don’ts During Lunar Eclipse: Simple Spiritual Practices for Peace
Lunar Eclipse: Follow These Vastu and Spiritual Remedies to Maintain Positivity at Home: In Hindu tradition, a lunar eclipse—also known as Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan—is considered both an astronomical and spiritual event. It is believed that during this period, not only does the Moon’s appearance change, but subtle energies in the atmosphere also shift. These changes are thought to influence the mind, health, and overall home environment.
While these practices are rooted in faith, their essence promotes cleanliness, discipline, calmness, and compassion.
1. Purify the House Before the Eclipse
- Thoroughly clean your home before the eclipse begins.
- Pay special attention to the place of worship and light a diya (lamp).
- Adding basil (Tulsi) leaves to food and drinking water before the eclipse is considered a symbol of purity.
These steps encourage hygiene and spiritual mindfulness.
2. Precautions During the Eclipse
- Avoid stepping outside unless absolutely necessary.
- Maintain silence and a peaceful atmosphere at home.
- Engage in meditation, prayer, or mantra chanting.
- Chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” or “Om Chandraya Namah” is believed to bring mental peace.
- Traditionally, cooking new food and keeping doors and windows open during the eclipse is avoided.
3. Vastu Remedies to Enhance Positive Energy
- Light a ghee lamp in the south direction of your home before the eclipse begins.
- Burn camphor or incense like frankincense to keep the atmosphere fragrant.
- After the eclipse, sprinkle Gangajal (holy water) around the house.
These steps symbolize cleansing and help restore a sense of balance and positivity.
4. Water Offering and Charity
- Place a pot of clean water in the north direction before the eclipse and offer it to a plant the next day.
- Offer flour and sugar to ants as a gesture of kindness.
- Donate food, clothes, or essentials to the needy or helpers such as drivers, maids, and cleaners.
Such acts are associated with positive karma and harmonious relationships.
5. Health and Spiritual Cleansing
- Soak 4–5 black peppercorns in water overnight and drink it the next morning (a traditional belief linked to purification).
- After the eclipse, take a regular bath, and some traditions also suggest a symbolic milk bath.
- Offer water to a Shivalinga as a mark of devotion and spiritual renewal.
6. Service to Animals and Conservation
- Feeding animals during the eclipse is seen as an act of compassion.
- Avoid wasting water and milk, as they symbolize prosperity and balance.
Although lunar eclipse remedies are based on traditional beliefs, their core message is universal—cleanliness, self-discipline, prayer, charity, and positive thinking. By following these simple practices, the eclipse can become not a moment of fear, but an opportunity to restore peace and positive energy within your home.
