Machchhar is a ‘true hero’ says Netanyahu: Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netayahu on Saturday spoke over phone with flydubai captain Smit Machchhar on Saturday. The prime minister thanked Machchhar for his heroic act and saving life of passengers despite being stabbed.
In an emotional conversation with Netanyahu, Indian pilot Machchhar described details about the attack inside the cockpit. ‘The flight was proceeding normally. Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami got up from his seat sayin he wanted to pray(offer namaz). A few minutes later he attacked me from behind with a crash axe,’ said Machchhar. Initially, I thought the plane had suffered some technical fault but rather the co-pilot in the cockpit was the attacker. After repeated blows my vision became blurry. A that point I realized that the plane was descending rapidly. Then, mustering all his strength he opened the cockpit door, machchhar said. People outside entered the cockpit and overpowered the attacker.
