Medical Negligence: 18-month-old died after anesthesia dose: An 18-month-old died following severe complications linked to an anesthesia dose. This shocking incident occurred in a private hospital in Kerala’s Kannur district on Friday. Police have registered a case against a doctor after the family alleged medical negligence.
According to the report, T Suraj and Vijisha, resident of Eramam-Kuttoor in Kannur, took their only son Devansh Shaurya to the hospital after he succumbed injuries while playing. Devansh sustained a lip injury while playing outside the house on July 5. He was initially taken to the primary health center in Mathamangalam for first aid. He was subsequently rushed to the Baby Memorial Hospital in Payyannur, where doctors stitched the wound under anesthesia. The family alleges that the child’s health worsened. He did not regain consciousness after the anesthesia was administered.
The family has accused the treating doctor negligence. Following the family’s complaint, the police have registered a case against the doctor under Section 125 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). However, The hospital administration denied all allegations of medical negligence leveled by the family members. In an official statement the hospital administration stated that the child suffered an unexpected cardiac arrest shortly after anesthesia was administered. After this, considering the seriousness of the situation, he was immediately put on ventilator support and shifted to a hospital in Kannur for better and advanced critical care.
The administration says that despite proper doses of anesthesia and proper medical care, such cases can sometimes lead to unexpected complications. The hospital has emphasized that all possible medical efforts were made by their medical team to save the child’s life. Police investigation is underway.
