Five Arrested After Metro Line-4 Bridge Slab Collapse in Mumbai’s Mulund; One Dead, Three Injured
Mumbai Metro Bridge Collapse: One Dead, 3 Injured: A tragic accident at an under-construction Metro site in Mumbai has led to the arrest of five officials after a slab from a girder bridge of Mumbai Metro Line 4 collapsed in the Mulund area, killing one person and injuring three others.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Johnson & Johnson factory on LBS Road, one of the busiest stretches in the eastern suburbs. According to police and civic officials, a slab from the parapet wall of the under-construction bridge suddenly gave way and crashed onto an auto-rickshaw and a car passing below. Both vehicles were badly damaged in the impact.
Emergency teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Sadly, one person succumbed to injuries, while three others are undergoing treatment.
Five Officials Arrested
The Mulund Police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and arrested five individuals linked to the project.
The accused include:
- Harish Chauhan – Project Director
- Kuldeep Sapkal – Project Manager
- Saurabh Singh – Deputy Manager
- Prashant Bhoir – Supervisor
(All four associated with Milan Road Biltech, a subcontractor of Reliance Astaldi JV) - Avdhoot Inamdar – Project Manager from DB Hill LBG Supervisory Company
Authorities stated that the arrests were made after preliminary findings indicated possible negligence in safety measures at the construction site.

Mumbai Metro Line-4 is a key infrastructure project connecting Wadala in south-central Mumbai to neighboring Thane. The corridor passes over LBS Marg, a crucial road link connecting areas such as Vikhroli, Bhandup, and Mulund. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time once operational.
CM Fadnavis Orders Probe
Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured strict action. He announced that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine whether proper safety protocols were followed at the site.
Calling the accident “extremely unfortunate,” the Chief Minister said the medical expenses of the injured would be borne by the MMRDA and the state government. He also ordered immediate safety audits at similar construction sites across the city to prevent such tragedies in the future.
As Mumbai continues its rapid infrastructure expansion, the incident has once again raised serious questions about on-site safety standards and accountability in large-scale public projects.
