Neeru Dhanda wins gold in trap shooting: Neeru Dhanda scripted history at the 2026 Asian Games. She becomes the first Indian women to win an individual gold medal in trap shooting on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old Indian shooter hit 28 of 30 targets in the final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery. Neeru opened the final with a perfect five hits before dropping one target in the second series. She responded with two consecutive perfect series to move to 19 hits from 20 targets, opening up a two-point advantage over her closest rivals. Neeru missed only once more in the fifth series before closing with another perfect five to finish on 28 and seal the gold medal.

She had also topped the three-day qualification with 118 out of 125. Neeru finished level with Qatar’s Ray Bassil before prevailing in the shoot-off for first place. Earlier in the day, Neeru Dhanda combined with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer to win silver in the women’s trap team event with a combined score of 328.
The victory was India’s second gold in shooting at the Asian Games 2026 after Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet won the 10m air pistol mixed team title.
