From child artist to public figure. Thalapathy’s ‘Vijay Yatra’. Vijay has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s full name is Joseph Vijay Chandrasekaran. He was born on June 22, 1974 in Chennai. He started his career in the film world at a very young age. He was only 10 years old when he appeared as a child artist in the film ‘Vetri’ in 1984.
That film was directed by his father S.A. Chandrasekaran. After that, he was seen in small roles in a few more films. In 1992, Vijay got the opportunity to act as a lead actor for the first time in ‘Nalaya Thiruppu’. But that film was not a success. However, in the early 2000s, Vijay’s career took off. He gave the audience many blockbuster films. Along with this, fans gradually started addressing him as ‘Thalapati’ or ‘Jananeetha’.
Later, many super hit films made him one of the leading actors of the South Indian film world. All these films did record business at the box office. However, he said goodbye to cinema for politics. Only 2 years ago, he formed a political party. But long before that, Vijay had been doing social welfare work through his fan club. In 2009, that fan club became a development organization named TVMI.
After that, it started working like a political party. This disciplined and dedicated organization has officers at all the district, tehsil and block levels. In the 2021 municipal elections, 130 members of TVMI contested the elections independently. That time, TVMI won 115 seats. From that, it became clear that Vijay had prepared his vote bank. Then in 2024, he formed TVK. In the current elections, he has achieved remarkable success by targeting Gen-G and women.
