Vijay Oath Ceremony: From Reel Hero to Real Ruler, Tamil Nadu Gets New CM Today
Thalapathy Vijay to Take Oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Today: TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay is set to take oath as the 9th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today at 10 am at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Vijay met Governor Rajendra Biswanath Arlekar on Saturday and submitted letters of support from 121 MLAs, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 118 in the Assembly. TVK secured backing from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, paving the way for the actor-turned-politician to form the government.
The journey to power, however, was marked by intense political drama over the past few days. On May 6, Vijay first approached the Governor with support from Congress MLAs but fell short of the required majority. He returned the next day with additional backing from Left parties, yet the Governor sought proof of support from at least 118 legislators. Negotiations continued as TVK worked to secure support from VCK and IUML, both of which finally extended their backing on May 9, ending the suspense over government formation.
With the Governor formally inviting him to form the government, celebrations erupted among TVK supporters across Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s rise from cinema superstar to Chief Minister has generated huge excitement among party workers and fans alike. Several TVK and Congress MLAs are expected to take oath as ministers alongside Vijay, while senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
