Delhi Govt Revises LPG Policy, Prioritises Cleaner PNG Network
New LPG Policy in Delhi Mandates PNG Shift for Commercial Users: The Delhi Government has introduced stricter regulations governing the supply of commercial LPG cylinders, reinforcing its push toward cleaner energy solutions. The updated policy, announced on April 2, requires businesses operating in areas with piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure to transition toward PNG usage.
According to the revised guidelines, commercial and industrial establishments will only receive LPG if they are registered with oil marketing companies and have either already adopted PNG or formally applied for a connection. This move is designed to reduce reliance on conventional fuels and promote environmentally friendly alternatives.
For businesses located in regions where PNG is not yet available, authorities have mandated the submission of an undertaking stating their intent to switch once the network is extended. These applications will be verified by oil companies and forwarded to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) for further processing and planning.
The policy also provides an exception mechanism. Businesses that require both LPG and PNG for operational reasons can apply to the Additional Commissioner. Their cases will be reviewed in coordination with oil marketing companies before approval is granted.
This policy revision is part of Delhi’s broader effort to improve air quality and promote sustainable fuel usage. By encouraging a shift to PNG, which emits fewer pollutants than LPG, the government aims to support cleaner commercial operations across the city.
Industry stakeholders are now expected to adapt quickly, as the new rules will significantly influence fuel usage patterns in sectors such as hospitality, manufacturing, and small-scale enterprises.
