Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the 34-year-old suffered a calf (lower leg) injury in mid-May and has not been training with the rest of the team at the team’s base in Manhattan. Neymar is working very hard to recover as soon as possible, said the head coach.
Ancelotti also confirmed that Neymar is expected to begin training next week. If the recovery stays on track, then the 34-year-old could be available for Brazil’s second Group C match against Haiti on June 19.
Carlo Ancelotti said, ‘We called him to the team not only because of his football skills, but also because he can give his experience to the younger players in the group.’ Neymar has been struggling with injuries and has not played for Brazil since 2023. Due to fitness issues, his participation at the club level this year has also been low. He has played in half of Santos’ matches in domestic and continental tournaments. Neymar made his international debut in FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
