Odisha Long-Held Hope Will Be Fulfilled, A New District Will Be Formed : There has been a demand for the formation of new districts for a long time. And the government has taken steps for this. The state government has invited proposals for the formation of new districts in the financial year 2026-27. So far, the state government has received the demand for the formation of 31 new districts. The Revenue Minister has said that the government will consider it at the appropriate time.
The shape of the districts may change after the census and delimitation. The number of districts may increase from 30. The Revenue Minister has given written information in this regard in the Assembly. In response to a question from Independent MP Vijay Dalabehera, the Minister said that so far the state government has received the demand for the formation of 31 new districts. The government will consider the formation of new districts at an appropriate time based on all the criteria and prevailing policies and regulations.
More than 30 districts of the state, including Padmapur, Ghumusar, Rairangpur, have been demanding special districts for a long time. There have also been protests demanding districts. After a long protest, the previous government had announced to give special district status to Bargarh Padmapur. However, it has remained only an announcement. There is a demand to give special district status to Rairangpur sub-district of Mayurbhanj due to population, traffic and other aspects. The Bhanjanagar Action Committee is demanding the formation of Ghumusar district by taking 8 blocks of Bhanjanagar sub-district of Ganjam district. The bandh and agitation are continuing along with the general assembly.
The number of subdivisions in the state may increase. The government has proposals for the formation of 66 new subdivisions. The government is considering the new proposals. The maximum proposals have come from Bargarh, Ganjam and Koraput districts.
