Today, Odia cinema has completed 90 years. The world of Odia cinema has completed 90 years of its journey. The first Odia film ‘Sita Bibaha’ was released in 1936. Which laid the foundation stone of Odia cinema. This black and white film was directed by Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami. It has completed 90 years, but Hollywood has not woken up yet. Because there are major obstacles in the business due to the lack of cinema halls. Government apathy is also making way. During the Corona era, the backbone of the Odia film world was completely broken.
But in 2022, a new dawn dawned in the Odia film world with the arrival of ‘Daman’ . ‘Daman’ broke record after record and earned about 5 crore rupees. Not only from a commercial point of view, but also from film critics and viewers. The film was dubbed in Hindi. Later came the Odia film ‘Pratiksha’. This too was successful. Anubhav Mohanty’s action thriller movie ‘Karm’, which came out in Dussehra 2024, created a record by earning 6.5 crores. The physical film ‘Boo, Bootu, Bhoot’, released in 2025, created a benchmark for Odia films. It earned more than 20 crore rupees and was much talked about nationally.
