Delhi Eliminated After Punjab Kings’ Crucial Win: Here’s What Happens Next
PBKS Victory Knocks Delhi Out; Final Playoff Spot Battle Heats Up: In IPL 2026, three teams have already qualified for the playoffs- defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Now, only one playoff spot remains, with Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders still in the race.
Punjab Kings kept their hopes alive after beating Lucknow Super Giants by 7 wickets. Chasing 197 runs, Punjab reached the target in just 18 overs with three wickets down. This win took Punjab to 15 points and fourth place on the table.
With Punjab’s victory, Delhi Capitals were officially knocked out of the playoff race. Delhi currently have 12 points from 13 matches and can no longer qualify.
For the Punjab Kings to reach the playoffs, they now need the Rajasthan Royals to lose their final league match. They also need KKR not to win by a huge margin, as Punjab currently have a better Net Run Rate of 0.309.
The equation is simple for Rajasthan Royals: beat Mumbai Indians in their final match, and they will qualify with 16 points. A loss, however, will eliminate them.
KKR still have a chance, but it is very difficult. They first need Rajasthan to lose. Then, against Delhi Capitals, KKR must win by a massive margin to improve their Net Run Rate above Rajasthan’s. Right now, KKR’s Net Run Rate stands at 0.011.
