The flight AI2379 operating from Thailand’s Phuket to New Delhi encountered a sudden mid-air turbulence due to brief drop in altitude by about 300 feet.
Phuket- Delhi flight encounters mid- air turbulence, several injured: Several passengers, including crew members, were injured after a Phuket-Delhi flight encountered severe mid-air turbulence on Tuesday. The aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated.
The flight AI2379 operating from Thailand’s Phuket to New Delhi encountered sudden mid-air turbulence due to a brief drop in altitude of about 300 feet. The aircraft was carrying 134 passengers.‘There have been no serious injuries as of now. Some passengers and crew members with minor injuries have been provided medical facilities at the airport for precautionary examination and care by Air India’s airport team and medical personnel,’ said an Air India spokesperson.
The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain Air India’s highest priority. We are providing all necessary support to those affected and are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities as part of the investigation, he added.
After landing, a passenger said it was early in the morning when all the passengers were asleep. The flight tilted sharply for 2-3 minutes after being hit by sudden turbulence. Several passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
