FSSAI said in a post on social media on Monday that Dabur India Limited has been ordered to stop the sale of food products with ‘100 per cent’ claims.
FSSAI issues notice to Dabur India, bars from selling products with 100 per cent claims: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has barred Dabur India from selling many products like honey, cow ghee and edible oils with ‘100 per cent’ claims. FSSAI says such labeling is against the law.
FSSAI said in a post on social media on Monday that Dabur India Limited has been ordered to stop the sale of food products with ‘100 per cent’ claims. These food products include honey, apple cider vinegar, virgin coconut oil, sesame oil, cow ghee, coconut water, coconut milk and so on.
‘Misleading claims such as ‘100% natural’, ‘100% pure’, ‘100% purity guaranteed’, ‘100% organic’ and ‘100% coconut water’ were found in food products being sold on the company’s website,’ the FSSAI said. The food regulator clarified that the use of 100 percent claims is a violation of the FSS (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, as they are vague, dishonest and may mislead consumers.
The FSSAI had issued an industry-wide advisory in May 2025, asking food businesses to avoid making claims like ‘100 percent’ on labels, packaging and promotional materials. It was stated that there is no definition of the term in the existing rules and this may lead to a misunderstanding of being pure or better.
It should be noted that the FSSAI has been conducting a major campaign these days against misleading claims in labeling and this action against Dabur is also a part of this campaign. Earlier, FSSAI has taken action against Westend Agro Products, Swiggy Instamart, apart from all the energy drink manufacturing companies.
