PM Modi begins for 4-day foreign tour, attend SCO summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Uzbekistan on Saturday. Modi will first visit Uzbekistan from August 29 to 30. This visit will help strengthen India’s strategic partnership with Central Asia and deepen India’s cultural ties with the region said Modi.
PM Narendra Modi will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, from August 30 to September 1. The Prime Minister said that he is confident that this journey will increase peace, stability and prosperity.
Modi said, ‘India has been an active and constructive member of the SCO since 2017. I look forward to advancing India’s vision for a region based on security, connectivity and opportunity, and working with member countries to build a region free from the scourge of terrorism, separatism and extremism. These challenges continue to threaten peace and stability in our neighborhood as well as in other parts of the world.’
During his time in Tashkent, PM Modi will hold delegation level talks with President of Uzbekistan, Shaukat Mirziyoyev. He said that India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership has made significant progress in recent years. ‘I discussed with President Mirziyoyev ways to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, digital connectivity, defense and energy and advance our shared vision of a ‘Developed India’ and a ‘New Uzbekistan,’ Modi said. The Prime Minister said that he will also visit the Shastri Memorial in Tashkent and the Mahatma Gandhi Center at the ‘Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies’. These are symbols of respect for the ever-closer cultural and people-to-people relations between the two countries, he said.
Prime Minister Modi will attend the 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadir Japarov. The prime minister will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO member states from the summit.
