Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Makes License Mandatory for Milk Production and Sale

FSSAI Makes License Mandatory for Milk Production and Sale: Amid rising complaints of milk adulteration in the country, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it mandatory for all milk producers and sellers to obtain proper registration or a license.

According to the new advisory, no individual or organization will be allowed to run a milk business without valid registration or licensing. The authority has instructed state food commissioners across India to strictly enforce these rules.

However, farmers and livestock owners who are members of registered dairy cooperative societies will not need to obtain a separate license if they supply milk through their cooperative.

FSSAI has also directed food safety officers to check whether milk vendors have valid licenses and to regularly inspect milk storage and cooling equipment to ensure proper temperature and prevent spoilage.

The authority warned that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules and has asked states to conduct special registration drives to bring all milk businesses under regulation.
