The incident occurred outside the Elysee Palace as the two leaders arrived in Paris on Friday for a high-level European summit on the Strait of Hormuz. Several other prominent European leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merkel, were also in attendance. Macron greeted Meloni with a warm hug and then a kiss on both cheeks. The greeting may be considered normal in French culture, but Meloni’s reaction made it very strange.
