President Murmu unveils bust of Mahatma Gandhi in North Macedonia: President Droupadi Murmu is on a two-day historic visit to North Macedonia. President Droupadi Murmu unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in the Skopje Museum with her North Macedonian counterpart on Wednesday. She said it will stand as a lasting symbol of friendship between India and North Macedonia, besides the common commitment of both countries to peace, tolerance and humanity.
Murmu and President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova of North Macedonia unveiled the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Skopje Museum. The two leaders also visited the Mother Teresa memorial in Skopje. Mother Teresa was born in Skopje and lived there until 1928. During her visit, President Murmu addressed the Assembly of North Macedonia, held talks with Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and addressed the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.
According to a post by Rashtrapati Bhavan on ‘X’ the President said, ‘Mahatma Gandhi belonged to India, but his message belongs to all humanity.’ His life showed that truth and non-violence are not signs of weakness, but powerful instruments for securing justice, dignity and freedom.
‘At a time when the world faces conflict, intolerance and division, Gandhiji’s faith in dialogue, compassion and peaceful coexistence remains profoundly relevant,’ she added. This is the first visit of an Indian President to North Macedonia.
