Republic Day Rehearsal: Traffic Curbs in Delhi, Advisory Issued by Police
Republic Day Preparations: Major Traffic Restrictions on Kartavya Path in Delhi: Preparations for the Republic Day celebrations are in full swing in the national capital. Following the full dress rehearsal on January 23, the parade rehearsal scheduled for January 24 has led to major changes in Delhi’s traffic movement.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory, urging commuters to plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience due to road closures and diversions.
Traffic Restrictions on Kartavya Path
According to the advisory, vehicular traffic will be completely restricted on Kartavya Path (Duty Path) from Vijay Chowk to India Gate between 10:15 am and 12:30 pm on January 24.
In addition:
- Traffic crossing Kartavya Path on Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road will also remain prohibited during this period.
- The India Gate area will be entirely closed to vehicular movement.
- Commuters have been advised to avoid Parade Marg during the restricted hours.
Alternative Routes Suggested
To ease congestion, the traffic police have suggested the following alternative routes:
- Mother Teresa Crescent Road
- Sikandra Road
- Ferozeshah Road
- Mathura Road
- Subramaniam Bharti Marg
- Motilal Nehru Marg
Security Measures in Place
As part of enhanced security arrangements ahead of Republic Day, the use of drones, paragliders, hot air balloons, and other sub-conventional aerial platforms will remain prohibited in Delhi until February 1, 2026.
Police Appeal to Commuters
The Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to motorists to:
- Remain patient
- Follow traffic rules
- Cooperate with police personnel deployed on duty
