Riyadh airport to remain shut until Oct 17: Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh will remain closed until October 17 following deadly Houthi attacks.  The shutdown has raised to airline cancellations and raised concerns over civilian air travel.

Saudi Arabia on Monday issued a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM), an official aviation alert informing pilots and airlines about flight restrictions, extending the closure of Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport until 2100 hours UTC on October 17 (2.30 am IST on October 18). Consequently, flight operations to and from Riyadh are set to remain suspended until then. The extension is expected to force airlines to continue cancelling or rescheduling flights to the Saudi capital as authorities assess the security situation.

Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said airport operations had been suspended ‘to allow for the completion of procedures to ensure the safety and operational readiness of the airport’s facilities’.
