SC orders Tarun Tejpal to surrender within 2 weeks: Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal got a big blow from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has directed him to surrender within 2 weeks. Tejpal had earlier requested exemption from surrender, but the court rejected his plea.
Tarun Tejpal was convicted and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2013 rape case. A junior journalist accused Tejpal of sexual assault inside an elevator of a 5-star hotel in Goa. Tejpal was acquitted by a trial court in Goa. But the Goa government appealed against it. On August 6 of that year, the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court overturned the trial court’s decision. The court convicted Tejpal and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
As per the Supreme Court’s latest order, Tejpal will have to surrender within the stipulated time. He has been also asked to submit surrender tax certificate after which the hearing of the case will proceed on September 22, 2026.
