Senior IPS officer Vinaytosh Mishra has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha. He will take additional charge of Odisha DGP from August 16, following the retirement of incumbent Y B Khurania, an official notification said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a proposal in this regard, the state government said in a statement on Friday.
Vinaytosh Mishra, a 1993-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as Director General of Police, CID-Crime Branch. He was promoted to the DGP grade in January 2025. The Odisha Police’s current civil list also places him among the state’s DGP-rank officers.‘I must thank the chief minister for choosing me for the additional charge of DGP. It is not a personal achievement, but a collective responsibility. I will try my best to provide justice to the people by properly implementing the law of the land,’ Mishra said, adding that cybercrime and narcotics are major challenges before the Odisha Police.
The appointment comes a day after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) assured the Supreme Court that it would defer its selection process for the state’s next police chief until August 18. The court is hearing a public interest litigation challenging the state government’s selection process.
