Sonam Wangchuk to be immediately shifted to Medanta, orders Delhi HC

The court said that if Sonam Wangchuk is sent to Medanta Hospital, it will fulfill the requirements of ensuring her fundamental rights.

Sonam Wangchuk to be immediately shifted to Medanta, orders Delhi HC: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday heard a petition concerning the safety and health of social activist Sonam Wangchuk. The High Court said that in our opinion, Sonam Wangchuk should be shifted to Medanta Hospital. At the same time, the court has fixed the next hearing of the case on July 24, seeking answers from the Centre, Delhi government and Delhi Police.

During the hearing in the Delhi High Court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on behalf of the central government, said that the government has no objection if the petitioner’s husband is is shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta. However, he also said that the patient should be discharged from the hospital only on the advice of Medanta’s doctors and not on his own will.

The court said that if Sonam Wangchuk is sent to Medanta Hospital, it will fulfill the requirements of ensuring her fundamental rights. This hearing was held on the petition of Gitanjali, wife of Sonam Wangchuk. It is worth noting that Sonam Wangchuk was sitting on hunger strike at Jantar-Mantar. During this time his health was deteriorating. On the 21st day of her hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital from Jantar Mantar on Saturday.
