Sri Amarnathji Yatra to remain suspended following IMD weather alert: The annual Amarnath Yatra will be temporarily suspended due to bad weather. The officials said that the journey will resume only after the weather conditions normalize and the travel route is declared completely safe.
According to an official statement, Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg said in view of the weather forecast by IMD, Shri Amarnathji Yatra shall remain temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes w.e.f July 19. This precautionary measure will ensure the safety and well-being of the pilgrims. No onward movement will be permitted from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps in the Kashmir region; no pilgrim convoys will be allowed to proceed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu. An update regarding the resumption of Amarnath Yatra shall be issued after ensuring route safety and assessing weather conditions, he said.
Apart from this Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra shall also remain temporarily suspended in view of inclement weather forecast issued by IMD.
The weather office advised travellers and tourists to plan their journeys carefully, asked people living in higher reaches to avoid landslide-prone areas, and urged farmers to suspend fertilizer application and chemical spraying during the forecast period. It also predicted a significant drop in daytime temperatures.
Officials said over 3.70 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine since the commencement of this year’s pilgrimage. The administration has advised pilgrims to follow official weather advisories and wait for further announcements regarding the resumption of the yatra.
