Australia’s Team World Cup campaign ends

T20 World Cup 2026 : Former champions Australia’s campaign in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup is over. Australia had its eyes on the Zimbabwe-Ireland match to be played on Tuesday in Group ‘B’. But after the match was called off due to heavy rain, the points were shared between Zimbabwe and Ireland. With this, Zimbabwe has advanced to the Super-8s with five points. It rained continuously since Tuesday morning in Pallekele. Even the toss could not be held due to the rain. After this, the match referee declared the match abandoned at 5:30 PM Indian time.

Zimbabwe has entered the Super-8s as the 7th team of the World Cup. Group 1 of the Super-8s includes India, South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe. Similarly, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England have already secured their places in Group 2, while Pakistan or USA will get a place as the 8th team. The ongoing Twenty20 World Cup has proved to be quite disappointing for Australia. The team came to the World Cup without some of its star players due to injuries.

However, the defeat against Zimbabwe on February 13 had left the entire cricketing world in shock. After this, the team had pinned its hopes on the match against Sri Lanka, but Pathum Nishank’s brilliant century ensured Australia’s exit. Australia’s last group stage match will be played against Oman on the 20th. However, this match has now lost its importance.
