Tarun Tejpal convicted in sexual harassment case: Former editor of ‘Tehelka’ Tarun Tejpal, has received a big blow from the Bombay High Court. The court has convicted him in the case of sexual harassment. The Bombay High Court set aside the Goa trial court’s 2021 judgment in which he was acquitted.
Justice Dr. A division bench of Neela Gokhale and Justice Amit Jamsandekar delivered the verdict after hearing detailed arguments from both sides. The case is linked to allegations by a former junior colleague who says the senior journalist sexually assaulted her in a hotel lift during a Thinkfest event in Goa in November 2013. The trial of the case began in Mapusa’s trial court in 2017. The trial court acquitted Tarun Tejpal citing lack of evidence. However, the prosecution contends that the trial court’s decision was flawed.Later, the state government appealed to the High Court.
The decision of the court was challenged by the Goa government in the Bombay High Court. Last week, the High Court reserved its verdict while completing the hearing on the matter. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared on behalf of the government.
