Sensex surges over 200 points, Nifty crosses 24, 600

Of the 50 Nifty stocks, 20 opened higher, 29 opened lower, and 1 remained unchanged. Among the Sensex 30 stocks, 17 gained while 13 declined.

Sensex surges over 200 points, Nifty crosses 24, 600: BSE Sensex opened with a gain of over 200 points in early trade on Thursday. While NSE Nifty was seen trading above 24,600 points. IT, banking, auto, and metal sector stocks witnessed good buying. Investors also remained interested in midcap and smallcap stocks.

The Indian stock market opened higher on Thursday. The BSE Sensex rose 201 points (0.26%) to 78,782.43, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 16 points (0.07%) to 24,641.00. On Wednesday, the market had opened with strong gains but ended with only a small rise. Of the 50 Nifty stocks, 20 opened higher, 29 opened lower, and 1 remained unchanged. Among the Sensex 30 stocks, 17 gained while 13 declined.

The fall in Brent crude oil prices in the international market has increased investors’ confidence. Apart from this, the positive developments regarding ongoing US-Iran negotiations enhanced global market environment. On the other hand, the June quarter results of several major companies in India were better than expected, which supported the market.

Tata Steel was the biggest gainer among Sensex stocks, rising 1.12%. Other stocks that opened higher included ICICI Bank, IndiGo, Asian Paints, Trent, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, L&T, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance, Maruti Suzuki, BEL, ITC, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and SBI.

Power Grid was the biggest loser among Sensex stocks, falling 0.74%. Other stocks that opened lower included Axis Bank, Adani Ports, Mahindra & Mahindra, Sun Pharma, UltraTech Cement, Titan, Eicher Motors, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Hindustan Unilever, TCS, and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
