According to media reports, Sangeeta has moved the Chengalpattu Family Court in Chennai seeking separation under the Special Marriage Act. The couple, who married in 1999 in the United Kingdom, have two children — a son and a daughter.

Reports claim that Sangeeta has alleged that Vijay has been involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress since April 2021. The complaint reportedly states that despite assurances from the actor that he would end the relationship, the situation did not change.
She has allegedly cited mental and emotional distress due to the circumstances and mentioned that she initially attempted to resolve the issue privately to avoid public controversy. However, when reconciliation efforts failed, she decided to pursue legal action.
The petition reportedly includes a demand for permanent alimony and the right to reside in the family home. It also alleges that photos of Vijay with the unnamed actress were shared on social media and that foreign trips together added to her distress.
