Trump’s India Visit Expected After Second Term Begins
Trump May Visit India Early Next Year, Says Marco Rubio: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that US President Donald Trump may visit India early next year. He also said that talks on the India–US trade deal are in the final stage.
Rubio said India and the US are strong partners, and relations between PM Narendra Modi and Donald Trump are very good. If confirmed, this will be Trump’s first visit to India since his second term. He last visited in 2020, while PM Modi visited the US in February 2025.
On the trade deal, India is seeking clarity on US Section 301 tariffs. US officials have said these tariffs may return to earlier levels under review.
Tensions had increased earlier due to high US tariffs on Indian imports and India’s purchase of Russian oil.
There is also a dispute over “Operation Sindoor.” Trump has claimed he helped mediate an India–Pakistan ceasefire, but India has denied this, saying the agreement was reached directly between the two countries.
