Union Budget 2026-27 For Content Creaters : Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for 2026-27 on February 1. Amid the usual numbers, there was one announcement that caught the attention of digital artists, animators, and storytellers.

Yes, the field of AVGC—animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics—is gaining popularity. Keeping this in mind, the Finance Minister has proposed establishing AVGC Content Creator Labs in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across India through the Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Creative Technologies.

Presenting her ninth consecutive budget in Parliament, Nirmala Sitharaman said the central government plans to help Mumbai’s Indian Institute of Creative Technologies set up Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) content creator labs in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across the country. The move aims to prepare young Indians for careers in a sector that is estimated to require two million professionals by 2030.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stressed the need for early exposure and structured training to meet future workforce needs and said, ‘India’s animation, visual effects, gaming and comics AVCG sector is a growing industry.’

The proposed labs are expected to focus on hands-on learning and skill development tailored to industry needs. This announcement firmly aligns the AVCG sector with the government’s larger vision of a “developed India.”

In her speech, the Finance Minister highlighted infrastructure expansion, strategic manufacturing, and education reforms as key pillars of long-term growth. In a further step to strengthen creative and design education, Sitharaman also announced that a new National Institute of Design will be established in eastern India on a challenge-based basis.
This initiative aims to meet the growing demand in the Indian design industry and increase access to high-quality design education. In addition to creative industries, the budget also outlined plans to support states in establishing five university townships near major industrial and logistics corridors.
