Union Cabinet Approves ₹ 14,115 Cr Projects; Includes Six-Lane Dwarka Tunnel, Kanpur- Kebrai Highway: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two major highway and tunnel projects worth Rs 14,115 crore. This project will provide faster connectivity between West and South Delhi. Along with this, 4 lane highway will be constructed from UP’s Kanpur to Kebrai.
Major decisions regarding the country’s infrastructure were taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi. The government has approved two major highway and tunnel projects worth a total of ₹14,115 crore. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared full details of these significant projects during a briefing. The project is expected to provide faster connectivity between West and South Delhi, benefiting commuters travelling from Gurugram, Dwarka, IGI Airport and West Delhi towards South Delhi. The government has approved the construction of a modern 8.1 Km 6-lane tunnel in Dwarka, Delhi. This major project will entail a substantial expenditure of ₹6,969.67 crore. This will connect Dwarka Expressway (NH-248BB) with Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj.
Additionally, the state of Uttar Pradesh has received a major boost for development. A brand-new 4-lane highway(117.7 kilometres) will be constructed from Kanpur to Kabrai in UP. The total estimated cost is set at ₹7,145 crore. This significant project forms a major part of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor and will be developed under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model.
The new highway will provide significant relief from traffic congestion in Kanpur, Ghatampur, Hamirpur, and Kabrai. Most importantly, the travel time between Kanpur and Kabrai will be reduced from three and a half hours to just one and a half hours, a substantial 58% reduction in travel time. Vehicles will be able to travel on this highway at impressive speeds of 80 to 100 kilometres per hour. Additionally, the project will interconnect four economic nodes and ten logistics nodes under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
