Congress Returns to Power in Kerala as V. D. Satheesan Sworn In
V. D. Satheesan Takes Oath as Kerala CM; Rahul, Priyanka, Kharge Attend Ceremony: The swearing-in ceremony of Kerala’s new government was held today in Thiruvananthapuram. Senior Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge attended the event. V. D. Satheesan took oath as the new Chief Minister, and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar congratulated him.
Who is V.D. Satheesan? V.D. Satheesan started his political career in the 1990s through student politics. He contested his first Assembly election in 1996 but was unsuccessful. Coming from a middle-class family with no political background, he entered politics with strong support from his family. Apart from politics, Satheesan also worked as a lawyer at the Kerala High Court.
He is known for staying connected with ordinary people and meeting them personally. His family members continue to live simple lives, and his relatives say he showed leadership qualities from a young age.
A 20-member cabinet also took oath, including leaders from Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League. Satheesan announced Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan as Assembly Speaker and Shanimol Usman as Deputy Speaker.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Satheesan and assured support from the Central Government for Kerala’s development.
