Veteran Educator Mrutyunjay Hota Honoured With ‘Dadhichi Samman’ for Lifelong Selfless Service : Odisha’s soil has long been a witness to devotion, sacrifice, penance, steadfastness and unwavering resolve. And embodying these values in his life is veteran educator Shri Mrutyunjay Hota, who was recently conferred the ‘Dadhichi Samman’ for his extraordinary contribution to society.For Hota, his home was nothing less than a gurukul throughout his teaching career. He dedicated decades to providing free education, distributing homeopathic medicines, offering guidance in astrology, and even entertaining with magic shows. His efforts were always directed toward helping underprivileged children pursue higher education.He gained wide recognition for authoring the mathematics book ‘Akal Gudum’, which simplified complex arithmetic for students through engaging methods.

Many of his students now hold prominent positions. Notable figures such as Paramahamsa Swami Pragyanananda Saraswati and Prof. Bibhuti Bhushan Mallik, Vice Chancellor of Rajendra University, Balangir, regard Hota as a guiding mentor in their lives.Inspired by the ideals of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the 91-year-old has lived a life rooted in selfless service. In a remarkable act of commitment, he has also pledged to donate his body after death.
At a ceremony held recently, Dr. Prabhas Chandra Acharya, noted journalist, author, social reformer and founder-president of the Body and Organ Donation Society of India, presented Hota with the ‘Dadhichi Samman’ citation as a mark of respect and gratitude.Hota’s life stands as a testament to the spirit of sacrifice and service, earning him the title of the “Dadhichi of this era.” Prayers and tributes continue to pour in for his health, wellbeing, and his continued journey filled with devotion and joy.
