Mamata Banerjee Unveils Trinamool Congress’ Candidate List for West Bengal Assembly Elections
West Bengal Assembly Election: Mamata Banerjee Reveals Trinamool Congress’ Candidates for 291 Seats: In a major political development, Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief, has announced her party’s list of 291 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The announcement, made from her residence in Kalighat, Kolkata, marks the beginning of intense political activity as TMC aims to continue its winning streak.
The candidate list reflects a mix of experienced leaders and fresh faces. While several incumbent MLAs have been renominated, some notable political figures have not received tickets this time. Among those denied a seat are former cricketer Manoj Tiwari and senior TMC leaders like Chiranjit Chakraborty, Partha Chatterjee, and Paresh Pal. In total, 74 sitting MLAs have been replaced, signaling a shift in the party’s strategy.
A major highlight of the election is Mamata Banerjee’s contest from the Bhawanipur seat, where she will face BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. This contest is crucial, as Mamata had won Bhawanipur in the last election after losing in Nandigram to Suvendu. Will Suvendu manage to defeat Mamata in her stronghold? Only time will tell.

TMC is also focusing on promoting young leadership. New faces like Shreya Pandey (Maniktala) and Sirsan Banerjee (Uttarpara) have been fielded to attract the youth vote. Additionally, TMC has shown strong support for women, with 52 women candidates included in the list.
To further strengthen its appeal, TMC has also nominated celebrities from sports and films, such as Olympian Swapna Barman and actor Soham Chakraborty.
Mamata Banerjee has criticized the Election Commission, alleging that it is favoring the BJP. She claimed that the Commission should campaign for the BJP if it is playing such a supportive role.
With elections nearing, all eyes are on these high-profile contests as TMC seeks to retain power in West Bengal.
