Y.B. Khurania to retire as Odisha DGP: Odisha Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania will retire from government service on August 16, 2026. The Home Department of the state government has approved his retirement in this regard.
According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, Khurania has been allowed to retire with effect from the afternoon of 16.08.2026 on completion of his service period. Khurania is a senior 1990-batch IPS officer. He assumed charge as the DGP of Odisha in 2024. Khurania was scheduled to retire in March 2026 after attaining the age of 60. However, his tenure as DGP was extended until August 16, 2026, to ensure compliance with the rule mandating a minimum two-year tenure for the state police chief.
As Khurania is set to demit office next month, the process to appoint the new DGP has been initiated. A key meeting for the selection of the new Director General of Police is scheduled to be held on August 7, sources said. Meanwhile, the process to appoint the next DGP has begun. In accordance with UPSC guidelines, the Odisha government has forwarded a list of 11 senior IPS officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for consideration.
In Odisha, Khurania served as Superintendent of Police of Nayagarh, Jajpur, Rourkela, Mayurbhanj & Ganjam districts. He also served as southern range & northern range DIG, Additional CP & Police Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate. He also served as the Director of Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA)-cum-IG Training. Before his posting as Special DG, BSF, Western Command, he also served as Special DG (Operations) at BSF HQs in New Delhi.
