Fans will connect with Ravana as much as Rama’: Yash says Indian cinema is ready to conquer the world with Ramayana

Yash as Ravana in Ramayana discusses audience connection with Ravana and Rama.

Ravana is often remembered as the antagonist of the Ramayana, but Yash believes there is much more to the character than his familiar portrayal. The actor, who steps into the role in the upcoming two-part epic, says audiences could connect with Ravana just as much as they do with Lord Rama. He also sees the ambitious project as an opportunity to take Indian cinema to a global audience.

Yash on the Many Interpretations of Ramayana

The actor, who is also co-producing the film, shared his thoughts during a conversation with Today Stars. Ranbir Kapoor, Ravie Dubey and Rakul Preet Singh also joined the discussion. Yash spoke about how the epic has been understood and retold differently across India.

The KGF star said, “The interpretations of Ramayana is different in each state, different in each language. There are many interpretations and the beauty of our culture is that we see the story from everybody’s point of view. Through Ravana’s eyes also people have tried to depict the story. So, I feel the beauty of this story is very relatable.”

Ravana’s Journey Holds Lessons Beyond His Power

Yash believes Ravana’s character goes beyond his role as the antagonist. The actor highlighted his knowledge, abilities and accomplishments, while pointing out how individual decisions can shape an entire journey. He also explained why Ravana’s presence is necessary to understand Rama’s actions.

He explained, “There are two aspects of it, when we want to achieve something we learn and dedicate ourselves to some skill. When we get it we become very powerful. After that, to maintain it is also important. In this story, Ravana is a learned scholar, musician and a warrior. But there are elements where the decisions that are made have a domino effect. That is beautifully depicted. One can relate to Rama, one can relate to Ravana… but how Rama has handled situations in life, that is something. To show that, we need Ravana.”

Yash Wants Indian Cinema to Make a Global Impact

Apart from playing Ravana, Yash is associated with the project as a co-producer. His involvement also stems from a larger ambition to introduce Indian films to international audiences. Citing the growing global popularity of Korean cinema, the actor believes India deserves similar recognition.

“This is the right time to show Indian films to the world platform, like Korean cinema is really making a mark, so India deserves it. So we had that vision and everyone came together,” said Yash.
