10 Semiconductor Projects Approved : Investment Of ₹1.60 Lakh Crore In 6 States…Foundation Stone To Be Laid In Bhubaneswar Tomorrow : Under the Semiconductor India program (ISM 1.0), the Government of India has approved 10 semiconductor manufacturing projects across six states with a total investment of over ₹1.60 lakh crore. These projects include major companies such as Micron, Tata Electronics, CG Power, and Ken Semicon, located in Gujarat, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, which are setting up assembly, testing, and fab facilities.
Two of these units will begin commercial production in the last quarter of 2025-26. The foundation stone laying ceremony for one of the approved projects, Heterogeneous Integration Packaging Solutions (3DGS), will be held on Sunday, April 19, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi, Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav, and other dignitaries will reportedly be present at the ceremony. Final preparations are underway.
India’s first advanced semiconductor packaging unit
On April 19, 2026, the foundation stone for India’s first advanced 3D glass semiconductor packaging unit will be laid in Bhubaneswar. It’s being described as not just another plant, but a next-generation chip technology that will power AI, defense, and high-performance computing. An investment of over ₹1,900 crore will be made. This will be the first-of-its-kind glass substrate technology. The government wants to establish Odisha as a global semiconductor hub, and the government is working tirelessly towards this goal.
Millions of people will get employment
The growth of the electronics manufacturing sector has led to a significant increase in employment opportunities. Industry estimates indicate that it will create approximately 2.5 million jobs, including both direct and indirect employment. Of this total, the mobile phone manufacturing segment alone will generate approximately 1.2 million jobs, including those in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, and related services. Furthermore, the government is implementing several key schemes to attract investment and further boost employment.
