8 Odia Girls Tied Up In Tamil Nadu : The promise of guaranteed employment through skill development under the government scheme has now come true for some young women of Sohela block of Bargarh district . The family of a young woman has alleged that her daughters are being taken to foreign states in the name of training and are being subjected to mental torture there. The mother of a young woman has informed that the young women are being harassed over the phone to return home. Nine young women from Barupali and Kaanapali villages of Kaanapali panchayat under Sohela block had gone to Cuttack for free sewing training under the Skill Development Department of the Odisha Government . They were sent to an organization in Cuttack through the village anganwadi workers. After 45 days of training, the company’s agents explained to the parents that the girls could return home if they wanted or work in a big company. But even after the training period ended, they were not sent home. Rather, without their knowledge and permission, they were sent from Cuttack to Tirupur in Tamil Nadu.
A young woman has been successfully lured back home by tricking her into getting an ear operation. More than two and a half months have passed, but eight others are still being held hostage there. Even when they want to return to their homes, they are not being allowed. The incident of Odia girls being exploited in foreign states under the guise of government schemes has now become a topic of discussion. The young woman, who escaped with her guardian, has requested the state government to bring back the trapped young women safely. Regarding this incident, Bargarh Labour Department Officer Sasmita Biswal said that those who do not want to work can return. She said that a letter has also been written by the Employment Exchange to the company that hired them in this incident . On the other hand, a guardian said that three people from the village went to Tirupur on Monday to bring back the girls.
